Hindatu was the one who first noticed and woke up to her mother's tears running down her face.
She was lying beside her in pain, and quickly sat up.
''Sannu ya Maryam, what’s wrong with you now?''
She just shook her head to tell her nothing.
From the other room her voice was heard saying
''Dagon Hindatu''
Calmly she patted her and stood up, leaned on the file and then said let me call 'mama'
Her mom insisted on getting up. Hindatu took her to the hospital, she didn’t want
to go out even though their clothes were dirty because she didn’t know what people would
say, and also because people would look at her with that same look. She confirmed
what she had said earlier about going out, but she wanted to
make her mother take medication first before taking her out of the house because of that.
To cover her hijab, Hindatu told her to wait while she went to find something to tie it properly, then she spoke to her.
After Hindatu left, the room became quiet, you couldn’t hear anything except the noise and
voices of people. Huwaila and Inna Hadiza were happy, five minutes later
Hindatu came back, she dressed Maryam and they left while
her maternal uncles were sitting in a group in their room, greeting her with respect,
because some had already started packing their things to go back to where they came from.
They managed to see the doctor in a short time so they went to a private clinic.
The doctor said he would keep her until Magrib so she could rest well and take
her medicine, she didn’t refuse so they admitted her. Hindatu stayed with her.
They didn’t leave the hospital until Magrib, on the way Hindatu said ''Aunty Raliya
has called you up to two times, you’re sleeping, she said to call back, Nasir is the one who
called her since she left and didn’t come back''
She just shook her head, she didn’t want to hear that she was tired.
They were walking in front of a market when suddenly all three of them, she
held them, like someone dragging them and pulling. There was no house they liked,
she was acting like she was cutting a rope, she said she was looking for something lost,
cars in a line until they reached their house's gate. They got down, paid him
and then quickly entered the house where even the gate was full of people.
In the darkness of the night it happened that no one saw them until they entered the house
where from far away they heard voices crying in distress, no one
was talking to her younger sister until they entered right into the middle of the house, to
their mother's room which was full of people who confirmed to us that
she had just died.
They finally entered their room, their mother was sitting on a chair
with a sad face and worried, then Aunty Kubra, their mother's younger sister, Inna
Hadiza and Baba Huwaila, and Jamila was beside them crying buckets of tears until
her headscarf got wet. Aunty Kubra was consoling her and scolding her.
